The Full Story
My mom says that when I was a child, I could always entertain myself. Luckily, not much has changed. My brain is constantly teeming with ideas but the question is, how will I share them? I’m glad you asked. I visualize how I want this expression to be present in the world and then start to create. I can be influenced by a song I’m playing on repeat, a movie I have watched, a book I am reading, an interesting object, or an observation of life. Then other times, it’s a random thought that has just popped into my head usually around bedtime.
I have a passion for the expression of personal style with an emphasis on vintage and thrift finds. My visual artwork is an extension of my fashion preferences as I predominantly use recycled and repurposed materials that I find at flea markets and salvage from my own trash. The goal of my work is to explore my identity and connect with viewers to foster a sense of community. I create through a combination of self-taught skills and experimentation.
My work as an interior design student is on the same wavelength as my visual art, engender emotional responses that create connections and extend to feeling a sense of belonging for clients, participants, and users. Ideas are explored by reimagining the possibilities of shapes, layouts, innovations, and movement to create expressive designs that engage and enlighten.
My past experiences include fashion styling, retail, nonprofit fundraising, advertising sales, event management, and communications. I earned a BA in English in 2003 and an MPA in 2014. I originally thought I wanted to pursue writing as a career but never found my niche. I was the co-founder of a business that offered the services of a writing duo and it is through that experience that I learned I have a knack for creating short-form content.
